Indian petrol pump receipts have a very specific look — FIP number, nozzle number, attendant ID, LST and VAT numbers at the bottom, and product + rate + volume in the middle. BillCraft's petrol bill generator mirrors that exact format, including the auto-calculation where entering any two of rate, amount, volume fills the third.
This tool is meant for petrol pump operators regenerating a lost or reprinted receipt for a customer, small fleet owners keeping internal fuel logs against company vehicles, and professionals maintaining personal expense records. It's not a loophole to fabricate petrol bills you never paid for — see the disclaimer below.
Fields in this template
Pump Info
- Tel. No. — pump contact number.
- Receipt No. — auto-prefixes by product: PTR for petrol, DSL for diesel, CNG for CNG, LPG for LPG, PPT for premium petrol. Change the product and the prefix updates automatically while preserving the trailing number.
- FCC ID — fuel cost centre / dispenser unit ID.
- FIP No. — fuel injection pump/dispenser number (default "28").
- Nozzle No. — the specific nozzle number that dispensed fuel (default "7").
Fuel Details
- Product — MS Petrol / HS Diesel / Premium Petrol / Premium Diesel / CNG / LPG (Auto Gas). Default: MS Petrol.
- Rate/Ltr (₹) — per-litre rate at the pump (default 94.72 — update to your city's current).
- Amount (₹) — total sale amount.
- Volume (Ltr) — litres dispensed.
Auto-math: Enter Rate and Amount → Volume auto-fills. Enter Rate and Volume → Amount auto-fills. Designed for the typical pump interaction: customer says "₹500 daal do", attendant enters Rate + Amount, Volume computes itself.
Vehicle & Customer
- Vehicle Type — Car / SUV / Truck / Bus / Motorcycle / Scooter / Auto-rickshaw / Tractor / Commercial Vehicle / Other.
- Vehicle No. — e.g. "DL 01 AB 1234".
- Customer Name.
Date & Time
- Date.
- Time — free text HH:MM (default 21:28).
Other Details
- Mode — Cash / UPI / Credit Card / Debit Card / Net Banking / Wallet / Other.
- LST No. — Local Sales Tax number (pre-GST state tax identifier, still printed on petrol bills because petrol is outside GST).
- VAT No. — state VAT registration of the pump operator.
- Attendant ID — the staff member who dispensed.

Important — why petrol bills don't carry GST
Petrol, diesel, natural gas, ATF and crude oil are currently outside the GST net. They are taxed under the pre-GST regime: central excise + state VAT, plus cesses. That's why:
- A real petrol pump bill shows LST and VAT numbers, not GSTIN.
- There is no CGST/SGST/IGST breakup on the bill.
- The rate at the pump already includes all embedded taxes — what you pay is the total.
- You cannot claim Input Tax Credit on petrol/diesel purchases under GST, even if your business is registered. This is a common mistake among small-fleet owners.
This template correctly omits GST fields — don't add a made-up GSTIN to the receipt. That would instantly look fake.
Use this generator only for legitimate purposes
This tool is intended for: (1) petrol pump operators reprinting a lost receipt for a customer, (2) fleet/vehicle owners recording fuel expenses for their own ledger against petrol actually purchased, (3) self-employed professionals maintaining personal vehicle expense records.
Generating petrol bills for fuel you did not buy, to claim reimbursement from an employer, is expense fraud. Inflating genuine petrol amounts is the same. If a real LST/VAT number of an actual petrol pump is used without authorisation, it is also a fraud on that pump operator. Please use this for genuine record-keeping only. BillCraft cannot control downstream use; responsibility lies with the person generating the receipt.
Who legitimately needs this template?
- Petrol pump operators whose POS system or thermal printer failed mid-month — a customer's receipt was lost and needs to be reissued.
- Commercial fleet managers keeping a daily fuel log against each truck/vehicle for internal control, separate from the original pump receipt.
- Doctors, lawyers, architects, freelancers using their vehicle partly for business and maintaining a fuel expense register that mirrors the actual purchase pattern for old-regime tax filing.
- Drivers of chartered vehicles maintaining a weekly fuel summary shared with the owner.
- Small shop owners using a delivery motorcycle/scooter and logging petrol as a verified business expense.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Rate inconsistent with the date. Petrol rates change daily in India. A receipt dated 10-Apr-2026 in Delhi at ₹80/L is implausible — look up the actual city rate for the date.
- Volume that doesn't match amount. If you override both Rate and Amount but not Volume, confirm Volume = Amount ÷ Rate (to two decimals). The auto-calc does this for you; don't fight it.
- Same receipt number twice. The auto-prefix handles product switches but not the sequence — increment the trailing number yourself across bills.
- Showing GSTIN on a petrol bill. Petrol is outside GST. Use LST and VAT numbers, not a fake GSTIN.
- Vehicle type and number mismatched. If the vehicle number on file is a two-wheeler, don't choose "Truck" for vehicle type.
Frequently asked questions
Is there GST on petrol in India?
No. Petrol, diesel, aviation turbine fuel, natural gas and crude oil are kept outside GST by Article 279A(5) of the Constitution until the GST Council notifies otherwise. States continue to levy VAT/sales tax and the Centre levies excise duty on these products.
Can I claim Input Tax Credit on business-use petrol?
No. Since petrol isn't under GST, there's no tax credit to claim. For direct business expense deduction (not ITC), yes — a doctor who uses their car to visit hospitals can still deduct a proportionate fuel expense under Section 37, subject to the usual rules.
What is FIP number on a petrol bill?
FIP stands for Fuel Injection/Dispenser Pump. Each physical dispenser at a petrol pump has a unique FIP number. Multiple nozzles hang off each dispenser, each nozzle assigned its own number. FIP + Nozzle identifies the exact point of dispense.
Why does the receipt number auto-change when I switch from Petrol to Diesel?
By design — real pump POS systems use different prefixes per product so the accounts can be reconciled separately. PTR → petrol, DSL → diesel, CNG → CNG, LPG → LPG/auto-gas, PPT → premium petrol. The trailing number is preserved across switches.
Why is the VAT number state-coded?
VAT is a state-level tax. The first two digits of a VAT number identify the state (e.g. "27" = Maharashtra). If you're regenerating a Mumbai pump's receipt, the VAT No. should start with 27; for Delhi, 07; for Karnataka, 29. Don't copy a default from a different state.
